What are the differences
between the Handheld and the PC?
Both systems read the
fault codes in exactly the same way, and produce the same results,
however, the PC version has the added benefit of being able to print
out results of a test.
The main difference
is in the portability of the handheld compared to a PC or laptop.
Ultimately it comes down to your personal preference.
Will the CodeReader
work on Japanese & Korean cars made in ALL countries?
YES. The CodeReader is
designed to work on ALL Japanese & Korean vehicles, no matter where in the world
they are assembled. It will work equally well on your locally assembled

What
does the CodeReader™ do?
The CodeReader speeds
up your diagnosis of vehicle problems by allowing you to quickly
and easily access the diagnostic fault codes found in the vehicles
onboard computer memory. (It generally takes less than 5 minutes
to perform a CodeReader test).
It decodes the diagnostic
codes and displays them in words on your Computer or Handheld screen
with the code number and a full description of the vehicle self
diagnostic faults.
The CodeReader
is also ideal for helping to find those frustrating intermittant
vehicle faults.
It will extract codes
that are stored in the vehicle computer memory even after the fault
symptoms have stop (generally when you get the vehicle to work on!).
Another powerful use
of the CodeReader is to produce a "Condition Report" of
the vehicle for your customers. You can print this report directly
to your normal office or workshop printer (even onto your standard
letterhead if you desire!)
Great for pre-purchase
and pre-holiday checks, or for your customers who desire that bit
extra on a service or tuneup. Printouts are the perfect way to justify
a CodeReader machine charge.
How
does the CodeReader™ work?
Our PCT patent
pending method reads diagnostic (fault / trouble) codes by directly
decoding the fault indicator lights on the vehicle dash (including
Check Engine, ABS, Airbag, or Transmission Dash lights) or LED's
on the vehicle computers.
It also uses innovative
probes to clip on directly to the vehicle diagnostic socket to read
the fault codes for vehicles without check lights or LED's. The
CodeReader is not model specific. It works on the type of diagnostic
system fitted to the vehicle, rather than a particular model vehicle
or build date.
As long as you can find
the diagnostic connector (the CodeReader shows you where it is),
and you know the Year and Make of the vehicle you can read the codes!
For example the CodeReader
system will read the codes from a Subaru EFI system automatically
whether its a bizarre Japanese import or a locally assembled model.
It makes your life much easier!
Does
the CodeReader™ ERASE / CLEAR fault codes?
YES. The CodeReader clearly shows you how to erase /
clear the fault codes for each vehicle. For example the CodeReader
will tell which fuse to remove to erase / clear the codes from memory.
What
is on the CodeReader™ PRINTOUT?
The CodeReader Printout will display your garage name,
the registration / license plate number of the vehicle, the customers
name and the operator of the tool, plus a list of the fault codes
found, with the number of the code and the code description.
For example: code 12:
Airflow meter or circuit. If there are NO fault codes present, the
CodeReader will printout the "No fault codes present"
message. Ideal
for before and after testing and diagnosis of vehicles.
How does the CodeReader™ connect to the vehicle?
The CodeReader™ uses two simple methods of connection to the
vehicle, the optical light reader and the clip on probes to the
diagnostic conector.
Our unique methods mean
that you DO NOT require expensive moulded plugs and connectors for
different makes and models of vehicles.
The PC system has a 10
meter long cable that runs from the parallel port (printer port)
of your computer to the vehicle under test. The CodeReader uses
a 2 meter long cable to connect Laptops and the Handheld Visor to
the vehicle.
Does the CodeReader™ show me how to connect to ALL Japanese & Korean cars?
YES. The PC CodeReader comes with a Quick Reference Chart (QRC)
that shows you a drawing of the diagnostic connector, the location
of the connector, and which terminals to bridge to start fault code
diagnostics. The Handheld CodeReader has all of the connector information
on the touch screen for all systems.
.
How long does a CodeReader™ test take?
The vehicle determines the speed of communication. It can take
on average around 30 seconds, to greater than 2 minutes for some
vehicles. The speed of your computer or handheld will not make any
difference to the code reading time.
What range of vehicles
does the CodeReader™ read from?
The CodeReader
reads from vehicles 1983 to 2003 for Honda, Acura, Toyota, Nissan,
Hyundai, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Daewoo,
Kia, plus Ford and Holden (GM) AustralJapanese & Korean models.

Can the CodeReader™
do other systems in the vehicle?
YES. The CodeReader™ currently
covers systems such as EFI Petrol, ABS, Electronic Transmissions,
Air Bags and EFI Diesel.
The CodeReader can also
read many other vehicle systems such as Cruise Control, Traction
Control, Anti Theft, Air Conditioning etc... We are aiming to add
these new system to the CodeReader in the future as well.

you purchase any CodeReader product, you can also decide if you
would like to go onto our emailing list, to keep you up to date
about the latest releases for your CodeReader system.
What type of information does the CodeReader™ give me?
The CodeReader™ reads the self-diagnostic fault code information
from the vehicle computer.
For example
Fault code 12:
Airflow meter or circuit
Fault code 37: Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or circuit
The CodeReader™
gives you an actual description of the area to start looking in.
Where is the CodeReader™ made?
The CodeReader™
is designed and manufactured in New Zealand. New Zealand has one
of the greatest variety of Japanese & Korean , European and US vehicles in the
world. This makes New Zealand the ideal country to develop and test
the CodeReader.
Does the CodeReader
do OBD1 Live Data / Data Stream?
No. OBD1 Live
Data / Data Stream systems are generally slow to update the data
to the screen, limited in the number of data parameters you can
access and every model of vehicle is different, making it almost
impossible to produce a tool that covers a wide range of vehicles
at an affordable price. You
are far better off with 95% Japanese & Korean diagnostic code coverage (Guaranteed)
from the CodeReader than 10% to 15% live data coverage offered by
other more expensive tools!
Does the CodeReader ™ work on Trucks?
The CodeReader™
currently works solely on passenger cars and light commercial vehicles,
such as Toyota Surfs, Isuzu Big Horns, etc. Please see our vehicle
coverage list for more details, vehicle coverge
list
